Railway modelling (UK, Australia, Ireland and Canada) or model railroading (US and Canada)

May 31, 2013

Info Model Railroad – Railway modelling (UK, Australia, Canada and Ireland) or model railroading (US and Canada) is a hobby in which rail transport systems are modelled with reduced scale. The scale models include engines, rolling stock, tracks, signalling, roads, buildings, vehicles, model figures, lights, and features such as streams, hills, canyons and landscapes. The earliest model railroads were the ‘carpet railways’ in the 1840s. Electric model trains appeared around the turn of the 20th century. But these were crude likenesses. Scale model trains today are more realistic. Today modellers create model railway (railroad) layouts (diorama}, often recreating real locations and periods in history.
